Barbara Jean Austin, born on March 1, 1943, in Cartersville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 83 years old.
Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend whose warmth, wisdom, humor, and deep love for family shaped countless lives. She was known as the historian of her family — a living bridge between past and present — and took great pride in preserving stories, memories, relationships, and traditions. One of the greatest blessings of her life was witnessing and personally knowing eight generations of her family, a remarkable legacy few are fortunate enough to experience.
Barbara spent much of her life in White Plains, New York, where she built lasting friendships and devoted herself to her loved ones. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every opportunity to gather, celebrate, reminisce, laugh, and care for those she loved. She was known for her excellent cooking, her love of westerns, her storytelling, and the special way she made people feel welcomed, connected, and cared for.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Jaynean Austin, whose unwavering love and presence were a constant source of comfort and strength throughout Barbara’s life; her grandchildren, Jarodis Austin and Jarred (Taylor) Austin; her bonus grandchild, Jonathan Stanley Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Zeni Austin, Kristen Austin, and Jaziah Austin; one cherished great-granddaughter on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Eloise Austin and Henry Oscar Austin, and siblings James Herman Austin and Kenneth Roger Austin.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who loved, supported, prayed for, and cared for Barbara throughout her life.
